Intravenous Therapy

What is Intravenous therapy: Meyer’s cocktail?
It's fast, fairly cheap and it comes with almost no side effects.

The Meyer's Cocktail is an intravenous vitamin and mineral protocol developed in the 1970s by a physician John Myers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland He started giving sick patients mega-doses of vitamins and minerals directly into their veins. Today solutions are further customized by their doctors.

"Myers cocktail":is an IV spiked with mega-doses of magnesium, vitamin C, calcium, B vitamins and other nutrients that assist adrenal function. It is designed to boost energy levels and immune system.

The infusion is given over 20-30 min while you are comfortably relaxing in a chair During the procedure, it is not uncommon to feel a warm sensation over the whole body and occasionally a bitter taste in the mouth. After the intravenous administration, some may feel a bit tired as the muscles begin to relax. Most patients experience a boost of energy within 24 hours and this may last for several days..

Why Intravenous administration?/
Because IV therapy bypasses the digestive tract, patients can get up to 10 times as much in one treatment as they could take orally in a day. Quickly flooding the blood with nutrients drives them into the cells more efficiently than being absorbed over time.

How often do I need it?
Anywhere from twice a week to once a month depending on the condition treated.

What conditions it is beneficial for?
Patients seek the treatment for everything from halting a migraine or asthma attack to warding off cardiovascular disease or quelling chronic fatigue syndrome. Research is also under way into treating multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and macular degeneration with various intravenous nutrients.

It has been found to be effective against acute asthma attacks, migraines, fatigue (including chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, acute muscle spasm, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis, cardiovascular disease, and other disorders, as well as sport endurance and enhancment.

Research:
Dr.Linus Pauling, winner of two Nobel prizes, conceptualized Orthomolcular medicine, which aims to restore the optimum environment in the body by correcting imbalances or deficiencies in biochemistry using natural substance such as vitamins and minerals, amino acids, trace elements and essential fatty acids.

His major research has been done on benefits of intravenous vitamin C for cancer and heart disease.(www. paulingtherapy.com or www.vitaminCfoundation.org) His 1970 book, Vitamin C and the Common Cold, recommended megadoses of vitamin C to ward off colds and lessen their symptoms. Millions of people now follow this advice. He was taking up to 20 gr of vit C a day. He lived to be 93 years young.

The key ingredient in the Myers cocktail is magnesium, an element responsible for roughly 300 body processes, including the relaxation of smooth muscles that control blood vessels in the lungs, head and heart. Two recent studies published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine looked at urban emergency rooms that use IV magnesium sulfate to treat migraines or asthma attacks. Both studies found the treatment to be safe and beneficial.

Note:
Meyer’s cocktails are not substitute for a good multi vitamin/mineral daily supplementation.
